Airport Departing Passenger Interview Survey
In the cordon line survey, Airport Passenger OD Interview Survey is conducted at Soekarno - Hatta International Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport located in Jabodetabek area.
The survey is applied to departing passenger who are crossing the boundary of Jabodetabek via Soekarno - Hatta Airport and Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport.
The objective of the Survey is to obtain passenger information and trip pattern data from air passengers who are crossing the boundary of Jabodetabek region.
The obtained information shall be helpful to identify external Origin-Destination patterns in the Jabodetabek.
In this cordon line survey, team of surveyors from local consultant was trained to conduct the interview survey.
In case of a foreign respondent, an English version of the survey was prepared and at least one member of each team knew English.
ID cards and uniform were prepared for each staff member. Survey is conducted using smartphone tablet application.
Before the survey, pilot survey at both airports was made in order to determine the work plan, number of staff and smartphone tablet.
The interview survey is applied only for the departing passengers (domestic and international destination) and conducted inside the boarding lounge in each departure terminal building.
In Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the Survey was conducted inside the boarding lounge/waiting room of each departure terminal as follows:
1. Terminal 1A: Gates A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7 (domestic).
2. Terminal 1B: Gates B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 (domestic).
3. Terminal 1C: Gates C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7 (domestic).
4. Terminal 2D: Gates D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7 (international).
5. Terminal 2E: Gates E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7 (international)
6. Terminal 2F: Gates F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 (domestic).
7. Terminal 3: Gate 1 to Gate 10 (international).
8. Terminal 3: Gate 11 to Gate 28 (domestic).
In Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, the survey was conducted in two boarding lounges (Batik Air boarding lounge and Citilink boarding lounge).
The survey was conducted on the third week of July 2018 (17, 18, 19 July 2018), on weekdays excluding Monday and Friday.
In Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the survey duration was conducted for 24 hours, while in Halim Perdanakusuma, the survey duration was conducted for 16 hours.
Due to a shortage of target respondents in several departure terminals both in Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport caused by some technical matters, additional survey was also held.

The major items to be interviewed in this survey are:
a) Type of trip
b) Number of passengers traveling with the respondent
c) Origin (last place of origin before going to the airport)
d) Type of origin
e) Departure time from the origin
f) Trip purpose
g) Access mode to the airport
h) Total travel time from origin to the airport
i) Mode choice, date and approximate time of departure for inbound trip.
After the interview survey completed (first survey and additional survey), the results of the achievement which obtained are as follows:

Based on the result of the survey in Soekarno-Hatta Airport, in terms of the share of access mode there is a trend change when compared to the results of the airport survey conducted during SITRAMP project in 2002.
In the 2002 survey, private car held the largest share (49%) as the access mode used to go to the airport and followed by taxi (30%).
As for the results of the survey conducted in 2018, the number of private car user decrease to 34%, followed by online taxi (29%) and the share of taxi also decrease to only 10%.
For the survey result at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, online taxi also holds the largest share for access mode used to the airport (37%) and followed by private car (29%).
Trend changes in the share of access mode are influenced by several changes in the pattern of transportation mode use,
such as the existence of online transportation which began to develop rapidly around 2010, as well as new options for access mode to the airport,
such as new airport bus services (JA & JR connexion) and new airport railway (Airport Railink Service/ARS).
Trip Purpose (current year & historical comparison)
From the survey result (SITRAMP 2002 and JUTPI 2 2018), we can also see a change in terms of trip purpose of the departing passengers from Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
In the 2002 survey, personal/family matters as a trip purpose held the largest share (68%) followed by working/business (work related) trip purpose (30%) of the passenger departing from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. In 2018 survey,
working/business (work related) trip purpose become the largest share of the trip purpose for the passengers departing from Soekarno-Hatta Airport (47%) and followed by family matters (21%).
Based on the survey result in Halim Perdanakusuma, working/business (work related) is the largest share of trip purpose of departing passengers (45%) and followed by family matters (24%).
Trend changes in the share of trip purpose for the departing passengers are influenced by several conditions which directly impacted to the trip purposes pattern, such as the development of LCC (Loc Cost Carrier)
which began to growth rapidly since the beginning of 2000’s, which opens opportunities for almost all community groups (in this case, students) to use air transport modes,
the opening of new destination routes, especially to the tourism destination (impacted to the increase share of trip purpose for shopping/leisure/tourism in
Soekarno-Hatta Airport from 1,6% di SITRAMP 2002 to 14% in JUTPI 2 2018), and increasing numbers of workers/businessman using air transportation as their main transport mode for working/business related activities.
In this interview survey, we also collecting data on the origin of passengers for each airport, where the findings are as follows:

For passengers using the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the highest share trip origin came from passengers originating from South Jakarta (16%),
followed by Central Jakarta (14%) and West Jakarta (15%), while for passengers using the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, the highest share trip origin came from passengers originating from East Jakarta (23%),
followed by South Jakarta (19%) and Central Jakarta (11%).

Based on the result of the interview survey, for passengers using the Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport,
most of the passengers choose airplane (93%) as their mode of transport and choose Sunday (20.3%) for their inbound trip to Jabodetabek region.
